Description
The studio specialist maintains the continuity and flow of studio operations. Their primary responsibility is to guide the voice talent and studio engineer to capture high quality TTS audio in Spanish. The specialist also assists the annotation team with label checking and prosodic annotation after the data has been processed. On occasion the specialist may work with speech science team, linguistics team, and clients to implement new requests or process revisions. The specialist reports directly to the VOICE PRODUCT AND OPERATIONS MANAGER.
Responsibilities
  • Help audition and recruit Talents in Spanish.
  • Take responsibility for end-to- end operation of recording sessions, understanding completely the required specifications.
  • Manage voice content collection and quality assurance projects.
  • Be able to explain specific requirements to the Talent, and prepare the Talent appropriately.
  • Calibrate the Talent’s performance to the required specifications.
  • Consistently deliver high-quality Spanish language recordings.
  • Ensure the studio engineer adheres to studio best practices.
  • Maintain records of materials that have been recorded.
  • Back-up and upload recording materials after each session.
  • Create and proofread scripts in Spanish for typing errors and readability.
  • Annotate portions of the data collected according to exacting specifications.
Minimum Requirements
  • BA in Linguistics
  • Proficient with IPA and ARPABET
  • Native Proficiency in Spanish
  • Working proficiency in English
  • Quick learning and excellent analytics skills
  • Proficiency in basic office tools and programs
  • Ability to reliably get to studio sessions on a daily basis.
Ideal Requirements
  • Master’s or PhD in Linguistics field
  • Experience with ToBI annotation

Description

This position requires two tasks at the moment, with future responsibilities to be decided depending on the linguist’s abilities and preferences. For the moment, the linguist will perform prosodic annotation of audio data, and tagging of corpus material with semantic, syntactic, and style labels. These tasks can be performed remotely, after some initial in-person training. Future responsibilities may include other linguistics team tasks, or remote directing of voice talents in the recording studio. On occasion the specialist may work with the speech science team, or with clients, to implement new requests or process revisions. The linguist reports directly to the SENIOR LINGUIST MANAGER.

Responsibilities
  • Annotate audio data with prosodic labels
  • (ToBI+; using SpeechLabel tool)
  • Tag TTS corpus material with linguistic labels (syntactic, semantic, style, etc.; using SpeechMorphing Front End Toolkit)
  • Perform other linguistics team tasks as needed (involving corpus, dictionary, disambiguation, normalization, documentation, coding, etc.)
Minimum Requirements
  • BA in Linguistics
  • Proficient with IPA, ARPABET, ToBI, syntax, lexical semantics
  • Native Proficiency in English
  • Quick learning and excellent analytics skills
